TODAY MARKS ONE YEAR
One year ago today Mark Herzlich was told that he had cancer. The world would not know for two more days that the reigning 2008 ACC Defensive Player of the Year would be in a fight for his life. Mark and his family waisted no time.
Exactly seven days after his diagnosis Mark was receiving chemo treatments combat the Ewing’s Sarcoma in his left leg. The pain was excruciating but the only thing on Mark’s mind was survival.
After several weeks of chemotherapy and radiation Mark had some news.
And he had some big muscle in is corner.
And today. One year has passed. Mark has beaten cancer. His hair has grown back straight. And he has become an inspiration to more people that he will ever get the opportunity to know.
But the story doesn’t end there. Mark is getting ready to come back to football.
We at Herznation want to thank all of you that have supported Mark and his family though this year. Be it an encouraging comment on this blog, a home cooked meal, or simply a hug and a pat on the back. It really takes a village. And a special thanks to the doctors and nurses who were in the trenches with Mark as he battled this terrible disease. You truly are the unsung heros.
We encourage all of you that know Mark’s story to share it with someone today. Spread the word about this amazing kids triumphant return.
And as always STAY UP!
